The NFL is on a mission to turn its international games into "mini Super Bowls" for fans across the globe, as the league looks to expand its footprint beyond the United States, according to league officials.

After a successful, sold-out game in São Paulo last month—marking the NFL's first foray into South America—the league is preparing to return to London this Sunday. The matchup will showcase the New York Jets, led by Aaron Rodgers, against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings, with Sam Darnold taking the lead, all taking place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

To elevate the fan experience, the NFL is rolling out enhanced pre-game and halftime festivities, along with various fan engagement activities such as pub takeovers and flag football events throughout London, as noted by NFL Executive Vice President Peter O'Reilly.

"We're looking to create an atmosphere similar to mini Super Bowls," O'Reilly explained, referring to the league's flagship championship event. "We're focusing on every detail surrounding the game—from the stadium's exterior to major pre-game highlights, including the national anthems of both countries and spectacular halftime performances."

This Sunday’s game will be the 37th NFL match held in London, paying tribute to London-born, two-time Super Bowl champion Osi Umenyiora and five-time Pro Bowler Jared Allen. O'Reilly expressed excitement about the electric atmosphere surrounding these events, saying, "It never gets old because the energy is contagious."

Despite some security concerns and issues with the playing surface during the recent game in São Paulo between the Eagles and Packers, the event was deemed a success. O'Reilly confirmed that the NFL intends to make São Paulo a regular stop on its schedule.

"We can't provide specific details about a return just yet, but based on the positive feedback, we definitely plan to come back," he said. The moving performance of the Brazilian national anthem by Luisa Sonza and a high-energy halftime show by pop star Anitta highlighted the significance of the event in a country home to an estimated 36 million NFL fans.

After the Jets vs. Vikings game, the Chicago Bears will face the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 13, followed by a game at Wembley Stadium on October 20, where the Jaguars will compete against the New England Patriots.

Additionally, the Carolina Panthers will go up against the New York Giants at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, on November 10. The NFL is also set to further expand its international presence in 2025 with its first-ever regular-season game in Spain, scheduled to take place at Real Madrid's iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
